about

Something to hold us over until the album is released later this year.

This EP started out as a 25-odd minute soundtrack to a video by digital artist/Irishman/mate Ken Simpson.

When I met Ken he was working on a video for the ATVP Road:Rode exhibition, part of the Big Bike Love and International Bicycle Film Festival Sydney. This was 3 or 4 years ago, which is about the life expectancy for minks, gerbils and rainbow trout.

He wanted an ambient soundtrack along the lines of the live show, so I recorded some improvised guitar loops for 20 or 30 minutes, then went back and laid down some synths, acoustic guitars, glocks, drums and anything else lying around. (Tony Dupe dropped by one day and I got him to play some cello on it, but I take responsibility for everything else, even if it sounds nothing like what Ken was originally after.)

All the parts were recorded first-take and so I spent a few months tidying things up and twisting it into the final performance. You can watch part 1 of the video here: vimeo.com/15211264

Then, after some time, I went back and cut the soundtrack into it's 5 apparent 'movements' and edited and mixed some more. This EP is what was left over at the end of it. I hope you enjoy it!
